Looking for Recommendations for Physical Activity?

Recommendations for general physical activity will of course vary for each person, but there are guidelines available for most adults. Here are the recommendations from major health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), American Heart Association (AHA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States:

Recommendations:

The WHO recommends that adults should engage in at least:

  1. 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week, or
  2. 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week.

Additionally, muscle-strengthening activities involving major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week are recommended.

Additional Recommendations:

  1. Flexibility and Balance Exercises: In addition to aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, it’s beneficial for adults to engage in activities that enhance flexibility and balance. This can help reduce the risk of falls, especially in older adults.
  2. Consistency: It’s generally recommended to spread physical activity throughout the week rather than getting it all done in one or two days. This consistency helps maintain and improve overall health.
  3. Adaptation: Recommendations can be adapted based on individual health conditions and preferences. Adults with chronic health conditions or disabilities should consult healthcare providers for guidance on the types and amounts of activity suitable for their specific situation.

Keep in mind that these guidelines are subject to updates, so it’s a good idea to check with the latest recommendations from reputable health organizations or consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

For informational purposes only – please consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program.
