What Is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization?
Scraping? Graston? Gua Sha? These all fall under the general category of what we call in Physical Therapy – Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM). I like to explain IASTM as almost identical as massage with your hands and thumbs, but using a metal tool instead. It is a little more aggressive of a technique and is typically only performed by Physical Therapists or other practitioners with some advanced training and experience.
How Does Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Help?
An advanced technique used by qualified practitioners
The use of the metal tool allows for the Physical Therapist to apply a lot of pressure to the patient, without hurting their own fingers in the process. Some believe this method is more beneficial that soft tissue mobilization with the therapist’s hands alone. At K2PT, we strongly believe in having a wide variety of tools to offer our patients and following evaluation and discussion, prescribing a plan of care which contains the RIGHT treatments, for the RIGHT patient, and the RIGHT time.Is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Right For Me?
