What Is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy is a type of conservative medical care typically based around the goals of decreasing pain or disability and restoring function. This usually includes both passive and active treatments such as exercises, heat/ice, massage, mobilizations, stretching, etc. Physical therapy begins with a comprehensive examination and then the creation of a treatment plan designed with the patients specific goals in mind.
How are Physical Therapists qualified?
Since 2016, all physical therapists graduate with a clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT).
Physical therapists are licensed healthcare providers who have obtained a license to practice after the appropriate schooling, clinical experiences, and successful passing of the board examination.
What does a Physical Therapist do?
A Physical Therapist will conduct an evaluation process consisting of tests and measures, medical history, complaints, limitations, and goals. He or she will design a treatment plan and you begin working towards your goals. This often involves hands-on manual therapy, therapeutic exercises and functional training, and some passive modalities if indicated. After achievement of your goals – you will be discharged!
