What Is Core Stabilization?
There has been somewhat of an oversaturation in the fitness and medical industry with the term “core stability” – as if it is this panacea and the only solution to all the worlds’ back pain. There is certainly truth to its importance and it has become such a popular buzz word for a reason. However, the prescription of exercises, designed specifically for you, by a licensed Physical Therapist is much more than simply a list of core stabilization exercises.
How Does Core Stabilization Help?
Generally speaking, your “core” is the midsection of your body.
It may include your abdominals, lumbar spine extensors, obliques, deep transverse abdominus, deep spinal stabilizers, and even hip/glute muscles. These muscles indeed are very important to a healthy and functional spine. Core stabilization exercises are often part of a comprehensive treatment plan designed for a patient with certain pains and conditions. The principles of Pilates are very closely aligned with core stabilization based exercises. We often recommend Pilates for patients who could benefit from that type of fitness, when discharged from therapy.Benefits Of Core Stabilization
