What Is Balance and Fall Prevention?
At K2 Physical Therapy we pride ourselves on delivering evidence-based care across the lifespan. We particularly enjoy working with older adults because small interventions can produce tremendous results. Most people are aware, that unfortunately, a fall to an elderly person could result in fractures, hospital stays, surgeries, and often starts a decline in independence. However, these problems are best treated BEFORE they occur.
How Can Balance and Fall Prevention Help?
Physical Therapy can be very helpful at improving balance, strength, and potentially reducing both risk and fear of falling.
Balance and Fall Prevention programs typically consist of functional based, full-body exercises and specific balance exercises designed to challenge both static and dynamic balance. You can think of your overall balance as receiving input from 3 distinct systems: proprioception, visual, and vestibular. All 3 systems can be trained and improved – we are experts at targeting each system individually, to maximize your potential improvement. We have parallel bars and other equipment needed to make sure these exercises are performed safely in our clinic, and then you will be given homework for home that can be performed safely. What Are The Benefits Of Balance Training
There are countless articles and studies that have been performed which show the benefits of balance and strength training for older adults. Here are just 2 examples: Balance Training Reduces Fall Risk & Resistance Training for Elderly.
