What are Headaches?
If I had a nickel for every patient who told me, “I can’t believe I suffered with headaches for so long before I came to see you!”… Headaches can be caused by many different reasons, however, all headaches were not created equal. We get referrals for patients suffering from headaches from all disciplines of medicine – primary care, dentistry, neurology, orthopedics, etc. We are able to attempt to determine the cause of the headaches based on some other anatomical factors and specifics about the type/frequency of headaches. Some headaches can be caused from posture, sinuses, some from jaw pain, some from stress, or some from muscle tension.
How Do We Treat Headaches?
We will do specific tests and ask specific questions to help determine the cause of your headaches, and then create a plan of care specifically designed to alleviate your symptoms. This typically consists of some passive modalities like heat and electric stimulation, as well as soft tissue mobilization/massage. There are also stretches and strength exercises which can be performed to help symptoms and restore pain free function.
What Causes Headaches?
Part of the process is determining what is most likely to be causing your headaches. A lot can be learned from the location, intensity, and duration of the headaches. There is often overlap with another part of your body. Meaning, a headache may simply be a symptom of a different problem. Some people with a diagnosis of TMJ pain also have headaches. Some people with a diagnosis of a cervical disc disorder, will also have headaches. Please stop suffering and give us a call to learn if we can help you.
